Moon Jellyfish Polyps

Moon Jellyfish Polyps

Aurelia coerulea

For those interested in growing their own jellyfish! Polyps are the sessile stage of the jellyfish life cycle, acting as little jellyfish factories. When environmental conditions are right, the polyps will start releasing baby jellyfish known as ephyra.

These will be shipped attached to black acrylic slides which can be placed or suspended in your polyp aquarium. We sell them as a colony of 10 or 20 to ensure you receive enough to start a healthy colony with genetic variation.

If you’re interested in raising your own jellyfish, we highly recommend also grabbing a copy of “How to Keep Jellyfish in Aquariums” by Chad Widmer. He covers the entire jellyfish breeding process in plain language.

The species we are offering here are Aurelia coerulea, the most commonly kept moon jellyfish. These polyps can be kept at room temperature and standard salinity but will need a temperature drop to 60 F in order to trigger strobilation. Polyps should be fed live freshly hatched brine shrimp or rotifers a few times per week.
