Crosshair hydromedusa are a small jelly found in bays and sounds along the American Atlantic coast during the cooler months. Their bells are round and dome shaped and nearly transparent. When viewed top-down, their digestive tracts an x-shaped cross, hence their name. They reach a maximum size of about 1", making them an ideal candidate for desktop sized jellyfish aquariums. Unlike other species, they will not outgrow a 5 gallon aquarium.
This species is fairly hardy and easy to maintain. They thrive with a "less is more" mentality. They have a slow metabolism and do not pulse as often as other jellyfish species. Because of this, it is best to feed them with live baby brine shrimp every other day, they don't need daily feedings. A gentle, slow flow setting is best, where the jellies will gently rotate around the aquarium.
